Glossary¶
The glossary section lists and explains some unfamiliar abbreviations and terms that have been used in this document.
DB - Abbreviation for database. A database is a system intended to organize, store, and retrieve large amounts of data easily.
Field - The term ‘field’ in the context of the PoiMapper application refers to the question posed on a form during a data collection survey.
Form - The term ‘form’ in the context of the PoiMapper application refers to a questionnaire. A questionnaire contains one or more questions.
GPS- Global Positioning System.
Modeler - A special type of user with the right to define surveys and location hierarchy details using the form builder.
Administrator - A user with access to all applications i.e. the data viewer, mobile client, form builder and admin tool.
POI - Point of Interest.
POI instance - A “Point of Interest instance” is of a specific POI type e.g. a specific school, trading centre, etc. POI instances are inserted into sub-levels of the POI type it is associated with, depending on which location sub-level it belongs to.
XML - Abbreviation for Extensible Markup Language. It comprises of a set of rules for encoding documents in machine-readable form.Glossary
